What is Meaningful Use?

Of the $800 billion in federal funding included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), $25 billion was devoted to stimulating the adoption of healthcare information technology nationwide. This segment of ARRA, known as the Healthcare Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, offers incentives to providers who demonstrate "meaningful use" of healthcare IT.

The ARRA 2009 provides substantial stimulus expenditures to the healthcare IT industry - $20 billion for the development and adoption of HIT. Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is the bread and butter concern of the health information technology marketplace.
